Why should you clean your HVAC?
HVAC systems create a comfortable environment for any home or business. While they to keep the building at a comfortable temperature, they also circulate air throughout the building. Creating air circulation allows for the building to become a healthier environment. However, if your HVAC system is not maintained properly, then you will not see optimal performance and the health of your building will suffer. This can lead to health risk, increased energy or maintenance expenses, and a decrease in performance.
An HVAC systems primary duty is to keep the indoor environment at a comfortable temperature, however, its many other duties often overlooked. As the unit circulates air through an area of the building, it pulls in contaminants to the system and filters the air, sending clean air back into the indoor environment. Over time these filters become clogged with contaminants, which need to be changed every 1 to 6 months. If these HVAC units are neglected it can lead to health risk which could include headaches, fatigue, asthma, throat irritation, constant colds, and more. Many of these effects are due to exposure to poor indoor air quality, which can be resolved through routine maintenance and cleaning.
While routine maintenance will keep your facility healthy, it will also allow you system to run more efficently. During routine maintenance your system can be checked for leaks and any other issues. Some possible warning signs that might point toward a leak are puddles and odors. It is best to inspect the system once or twice a year to see if anything is wrong. Following these steps helps to keep your HVAC system running efficiently. In one of our previous articles “What’s in YOUR Air Ducts??”, we mentioned how your HVAC systems efficiency can decrease by 30% if not kept up well. These tips help to prevent that drop before it’s too late.
